I have been doing massages for over 15 years and love that I
have been able to do something so rewarding and special for
others as my life's work. I got into massage kind of by accident.
My husband had died in a car accident and I was left to raise
five children alone. My youngest was going into kindergarten
and I wanted to maybe try my hand at something besides
cleaning and cooking but what could I do? I really did not think I
was good at much besides being a Mom. I had taken my kids to
camp and had volunteered as a camp counselor. One of the
girls in my dorm hurt her back so I massaged it a little and she
said "you know you could get paid for doing this"? I thought
about it and decided to get my education in what I now do best,
Massages!
I love people and making them feel better for my work is such a joy to me. I was raised a
preachers daughter and knew the power of prayer and the wonderful healing touch of our
Lord and Savior. I believe he has given me a healing touch to share with those around me,
either by just listening or massaging or praying for someone. I give my job and my gift back
to God by helping those around me. I have been blessed to have been able to work with
people like Gene Stephenson and the Shockers Baseball Team as well as the The Wings
the last year they were here in Wichita. I used to sing the National Anthem at a lot of events
for the Wings, WSU, Shiners Circus, Air Heritage, Wranglers, the Thunder and the Royals as
well. I guess that is how I came to work with so many of the athletes. I have had the
opportunity to bring my services to many of the local Golf Tournaments and have met many
great people over the years. I also enjoy doing more relaxing massages with hot stones,
essential oils and a softer approach especially tailored for the elderly. Having had five
children, I understand how sore you get when you are pregnant and so pregnancy
massages are also something I enjoy as well. After doing massages here in the Wichita area
for over 10 years I took a short sabbatical and moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado where I
continued my business and also furthered my education in massage and healing. I also had
the chance to pursue my passion of singing and I did some Music Theater there as well. I
met the Love of my life there and am now wonderfully and amazingly happy. I never thought I
would find someone to love me like he does and I thank God for him every day. I prayed for
so long for the right man and I had to go to Colorado to find him, but it was so worth it. My
kids are now grown with kids of their own. I have four grand kids now and I do feel blessed.
God has been very good, even in the midst of my pain I knew he was in control. He has
never left me and has comforted me during the times I needed it most and gave me strength
to get up and start over again.
May God Bless You This Day, Jeannie Van Woerkom
